Today's Watercolor ; Turn sunshine into rain!

That's the good thing with painting - you can do anything! For today's watercolor I used the reference photo below that I found on pinterest, but I wanted to make the nice summery scene a bit more dramatic, so I changed the beautiful weather to stormy, rainy day (-:

Tip of the day: I mixed a lot of that stormy sky color so that when I started with the rest of the scene I could mix a bit of that sky color in with all the other colors I used and get a more harmonious feel - the sky reflecting on the ground.

Hugs!

Watercolor - florals

Inspired by a visit to our botanical garden I've been painting some flowers. I'm not sure what these are called - bleeding hearts? Have to ask mum...

Edited; Thanks Lin and Laurel - the are Fuchsia and nothing else! (I am terrible with flowers - my husband takes care of our plants - and has to write me notes for what to do with them if he's away...)

Again I wanted to try the difference between different kinds of paper. The first one is painted on Cotman's 300gr watercolor paper. It's a very smooth paper that I find really nice for florals and furry animals. The second one is on Arches 300gr Rough grain. It's a paper I absolutely LOOOVE - especially for lanscape scenes. I'm not sure which one I like the best this time though - I like the smoothness on the flowers on the first but the texture on the leaves and background on the second (-:

Have a great day, hugs, Karin

Movie Night

My mum is having Ted the coming week-end and I wanted to surprise my sweet husband with a movie and dinner. Here's the card I made for him - inspired by the dots and spots challenge at Simon Wednesday challenge and the "anything goes" challenges at Paper Smooches SPARKS and at Curtain Call.. I used the PS set "we totally click".

Have a great Tuesday, hugs, Karin

Traveling journal - a note book!

Here's a last minute entry for the challenge at Make the day special  where you are to case yourself. I Turned my old "Bon Voyage" card (below) into a trevelling journal note book. Hope to get use for it soon!!!

I used this card from 2011 (http://peppermintpattys-papercraft.blogspot.se/2011/06/enjoy-your-trip.html) It was made from Paper Smooches cute freebie - didn't own any PS stamps back then - LOL

I chose this card so I could play along with "THe cutting edge" challenge too where this is the inspiration photo. + the "anything goes" challenge at Curtain Call.

Hugs!

Tuesday Watercolors - Fish

Hi

Today I'm sharing another watercolor. This time some fish - I've had a piece of Fabriano paper 300gr stretched out on a board with a sketch of these two fish under my desk for probably more than ten years. Now that I started painting again I been meaning to get it done so I could use the board for other paintings, but how I looked I couldn't find the foto I'd used - until last night, when I got a sudden impulse to go through our heavily overloaded bookshelves to see what we could donate for charity - I took down and started flipping through a photography book by Jan Grahn - and there it was!!!

Imediately inspired I spent last night painting instead of cleaning out our bookshelves!
For this painting I used a technique I seldom use, but which is quite fun for creating highlights - wax resist - I used wax from a an ordinary candle for the areas I wanted to remain white. I usually like more "control" but I think it worked quite well for the shimmer on the backs of these fish.

Hugs, Karin

Wednesday Watercolors - Apricots on three different Arches watercolor papers

Hi again!

More watercolors today - I just LOVE summer break (-:!!!

Those of you who follow my blog know my new years' resolution to start painting again is actually going quite OK  = I  haven't given up yet - but what I've done - being a restless soul-  is that I've jumped from one subject to another - probably not the best way for improving your painting techniques...
BUT today I did the opposite - I painted exactly the same thing Three times in a row - my plan was that I would loosen up my painting style for each time I did it, BUT at the same time I wanted to try the difference between 3 different types of Arches watercolor papers and compare results and feeling. I really loved doing it but because the papers behave so differently, I Think it prevented me a bit from loosening up as much as I had planned. As Always I blame the paper for everything (-:
Anyway here are the samples:

Post for Lawnscaping Challenges

Hi Everyone! Post for Lawnscaping Challenges
It's Karin here to share some inspiration for the Lawnscaping Challenge blog. Today I've played with some really summery sets!

The Lawn Fawn supplies I used for my project:
Stamps; Summertime Charm, So much to Say

  • Make cardbase from red cardstock.
  • Cut a slightly smaller panel of yellow patterned paper and adhere to cardbase with tape.
  • Stitch around the panel using a sewing machine.
  • Add a bit of lace to resemble a tablecloth.
  • Stamp and color and then fuzzy cut the jar, the strawberries and the little bees before adhering then to the card with gluetape.
